WASHINGTON, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- An autism advocacy group is trying to block pending federal legislation that would indemnify vaccine manufacturers.
The National Autism Association, based in Marion, S.C., urged parents to contact their representatives in Congress and request they block legislation that would grant liability protection to manufacturers if their vaccines or other products cause injuries.
The group said it had succeeded in jamming phone lines on Capitol Hill Tuesday with its calls to Congress.
"Pharmaceutical liability protection language is now everywhere in pending legislation on Capitol Hill, and we must speak up now on behalf of our children," the NAA said in a statement.
The group said the language is pending in at least 10 different bills -- six in the Senate and four in the House -- and provided a form letter people could send to their representatives requesting they vote against the measures.
