Activists force POM to stop animal testing

CANOGA PARK, Calif., Jan. 18 (UPI) -- U.S. animal rights activists took credit for forcing juice manufacturer POM Wonderful to halt testing of its products on animals.

The North American Animal Liberation Press Office called it "an unmitigated victory for animal activists," who had been waging a campaign against POM to protest its alleged experiments that involved baby mice and rabbits to show the health benefits of its pomegranate juices.

The campaign included protesting at the home of Stewart Resnick, owners of POM's parent company Roll International.

According to NAALPO, Resnick issued a statement Wednesday to POM retailers saying, ""POM Wonderful pomegranate juice has ceased all animal testing and we have no plans to do so in the future."

The announcement came hours after Whole Foods Markets said it would stop selling POM's products if the company did not cease animal testing.
