St. Jude OK'd on heart-rhythm devices

ST. PAUL, Minn., Jan. 11 (UPI) -- St. Jude said Thursday it has been approved for U.S. and European sales of two new cardiac rhythm-management products.

The device maker said it got approval in both regions for its Reflexion Spiral Variable Radius Mapping Catheter -- designed to deflect in both directions -- and a faster, smaller EnSite System workstation computer, which provides three-dimensional models of the heart to help doctors diagnose arrhythmia.

St. Jude said it would unveil the new products at the Boston Atrial Fibrillation Symposium Jan. 11-13.

"The Boston Atrial Fibrillation Symposium brings together clinicians from around the world who are driving the innovation of curative approaches for this challenging and widespread condition," said Jane Song, president of St. Jude Medical's atrial fibrillation division. "We look forward to collaborating with these leaders to develop technologies, procedures and clinical studies that support effective treatment of complex arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation."
