Group OKs more health-record products

CHICAGO, July 31 (UPI) -- The quasi-governmental U.S. body charged with certifying health information technology announced two new certifications Monday.

The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology, a panel contracted by the federal government to apply standards to health IT products, also finalized approval for two products that had already been granted conditional certification.

The total number of products certified during the first round for electronic health records is now 22, and represent steps toward President Bush's stated goal of electronic health records for all Americans by 2014.

The two new certifications are for iMedica Patient Relationship Manager 2005, version 5.1, by iMedica Corporation and Praxis Electronic Medical Records, version 3.4, by INFOR-MED Corporation.

MEDENT 16 by Community Computer Service and Medical and Practice Management Suite, Client Server Version 5.5, (Service Release 2.1) by LSS Data Systems received finalized certified status for 2006.

The next application period for certification of ambulatory electronic health record products will be from Aug. 1 to Aug. 14 and the next announcement of certified products is scheduled for late October.
