Renal Solutions OK'd on dialysis device

WARRENDALE, Pa., June 8 (UPI) -- Renal Solutions said Thursday it has been cleared to sell its Allient Sorbent Hemodialysis System for chronic/acute hemodialysis.

The device maker said the new approval by the Food and Drug Administration includes its Sorb series and Hisorb series cartridges for chronic and acute hemodialysis applications.

The new system allows short, standard or extended duration hemodialysis therapy "using just (one and one half) gallons of ordinary drinking water," the company said, adding that studies have shown that an increased cumulative dialysis dose results in better patient outcomes.

"By combining advanced hemocompatible materials in the Pulsar Blood Pump with the inherent benefits of sorbent therapy, Renal Solutions is poised to introduce new dialysis treatment options with the latest technology," Renal Solutions Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Peter DeComo said in a statement.
