ABMC cleared on drug abuse screening test

KINDERHOOK, N.Y., May 31 (UPI) -- American Bio Medica Corp. said Wednesday it is cleared to market its Rapid TOX test that screens urine for a variety of abused drugs.

The company said the Food and Drug Administration has approved the new rapid test, which uses a horizontal cassette platform to simultaneously detect two to 10 commonly abused drugs in a urine specimen.

"Rapid TOX has opened up a lot of doors for us in the workplace and occupational health markets and has helped us to provide another cost effective drug test to the criminal justice market," ABMC Chief Executive Officer Stan Cipkowski said in a statement.

"This FDA clearance will now allow us to complete a relationship with a global partner and offer hospitals and physicians an alternative product for use in emergency rooms and patient drug testing programs," he said.

ABMC said the newly approved test can be used with its previously approved Rapid Reader drug screen result interpretation and data management system.
