WASHINGTON, July 18 (UPI) -- President Barack Obama and his family are to spend the last week of August vacationing on Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts, the White House said.

First lady Michelle Obama and daughters Sasha and Malia may arrive at their vacation spot a few days ahead of the president, who is working on pressing issues, including healthcare reform, the Martha's Vineyard (Mass.) Gazette, reported Saturday.

The exact location of the Obama's vacation spot has yet to be publicly announced, the Gazette reported, noting Martha's Vineyard was a favored vacation destination for former President Bill Clinton and his family.

The Obamas' vacation plans had been kept secret for security reasons, CNN reported Saturday, adding some White House officials also viewed the vacation as politically sensitive in light of the deep economic downturn.
