PORTLAND, Ore., July 22 (UPI) -- Chuck Palahniuk says Fight Club 2 will be a comic book series.

The 52-year-old author detailed the sequel in a recent interview with USA Today. The original novel was published in 1996 and adapted for film by director David Fincher in 1999, and the story will continue in a 10-issue Dark Horse Comics maxiseries illustrated by Cameron Stuart.

The sequel picks up ten years after the events of Fight Club, and continues the author's "tirade against fathers." The unnamed narrator is now married to Marla Singer, and finds himself failing their 9-year-old son, Junior, in the same ways his own father failed him. Volatile personality Tyler reappears, and the series will provide a better idea of the character's origins.

"Tyler is something that maybe has been around for centuries and is not just this aberration that's popped up in his mind," Palahniuk shares.

The author says the continuation is "as much a meta-fictional comment on the cultural response to Fight Club as it is a sequel." The style will tend toward the "cartoony" in order to suit "the density of the story and for some of its more absurdly comic moments."

Palahniuk will host a Fight Club panel with Fincher at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday. The writer published Doomed in 2013, and will release "gonzo erotica" novel Beautiful You in October.

Fight Club 2 will debut in May 2015.
