LOS ANGELES, July 18 (UPI) -- David Beckham and two of his sons got covered in golden slime at the 2014 Kids' Choice Sports Awards.

The 39-year-old soccer star and sons Romeo, age 11, and Cruz, age 9, attended the event Thursday in Los Angeles. Beckham was on hand to receive the first Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Sports Legend Award in recognition of his 21-year professional soccer career.

"When I was young, my dream was to be a professional soccer player," he shared in his acceptance speech. He encouraged the young crowd to follow their dreams before Romeo and Cruz joined him on stage and the trio got slimed.

Beckham and wife Victoria have two other children, son Brooklyn, age 15, and daughter Harper, age 3. The couple have been together since 1997, and celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary July 4.
