114.4 million watched the Super Bowl on NBC Sunday night

The NFL game in which the New England Patriots beat the Seattle Seahawks 28-24 is the most-watched television program in U.S. history, says NBC.

GLENDALE, Ariz., Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Super Bowl XLIX was seen by a record 114.4 million viewers on NBC Sunday night, the network announced Monday.

The NFL game in which the New England Patriots beat the Seattle Seahawks 28-24 is the most-watched television program in U.S. history and the highest-rated Super Bowl in 30 seasons, NBC said. Pop music sensation Katy Perry headlined the game's halftime show.

2014's big game was seen by 2.2 million less viewers on FOX.

"Last night's Patriots-Seahawks Super Bowl ranks among the most exciting sporting events in U.S. history," Mark Lazarus, chairman of NBC Sports Group, said in a statement. "Super Bowl XLIX delivered for all of our partners, proving once again that the Super Bowl is the most dominant and consistent property on television."
