May 17 (UPI) -- ABC has ordered to series a spinoff of Grey's Anatomy about a Seattle firehouse.

The series will be helmed by Grey's Anatomy showrunner Stacy McKee with Grey's creator and writer Shonda Rhimes executive producing along with McKee and Betsy Beers, Variety reported.

The untitled drama will revolve around a group of firefighters in and out of the firehouse as they risk their lives while on duty.

"No one can interweave the jeopardy firefighters face in the line of duty with the drama in their personal lives quite like Shonda, and Grey's signature Seattle setting is the perfect backdrop for this exciting spinoff," said ABC entertainment president Channing Dungey in a statement.

Characters from the spinoff will be first introduced during an upcoming Season 14 episode of Grey's Anatomy before appearing in their own show.

Recently, Rhimes' other ABC drama, Scandal, was confirmed to be ending after Season 7.
