May 9 (UPI) -- FOX has canceled its supernatural drama Sleepy Hollow after four seasons.

Variety said low ratings were to blame for the series' demise.

Inspired by Washington Irving's classic story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," the show followed Tom Mison's revived 18th-century soldier Ichabod Crane and his contemporary partner Jenny Mills, played by Lyndie Greenwood, as they saved the world from various demons first in upstate New York and then in Washington, D.C.
