May 7 (UPI) -- Host Adam DeVine kicked off Sunday's MTV Movie & TV Awards ceremony in Los Angeles with a musical parody paying homage to the 2017 blockbusters Logan and Beauty and the Beast.

"An exciting format change. A brand, new rivalry, film star Lil Rel, now Eleven's here as well, movies and TV," DeVine -- dressed as Beast -- sang and danced around the Shrine Auditorium stage, which was decorated like a fairytale, palace ballroom.

Spotting Hugh Jackman in the audience, DeVine remarked: "Hugh Jackman's here! I'm the Beast and you're Wolverine. We're like the same guy, right?"

DeVine then coaxed Beauty and the Beast star Josh Gad on stage to sing a tribute to Jackman's latest Wolverine movie Logan to the tune of "Gaston."

When DeVine declared from the stage, "I need a Belle!" actress Hailee Steinfeld sprang from her seat and replied, "I'm in!" doffing her long coat to reveal a yellow gown, much to the delight of Emma Watson, who played the heroine in Beauty and the Beast.

Comic actress Rebel Wilson then joined the ensemble wearing a giant tea kettle costume to portray Mrs. Potts. The number ended with DeVine swinging from a crystal chandelier onto a table in the audience.
