April 25 (UPI) -- Mark Consuelos will play Veronica's dad on the Archie reboot Riverdale.

The CW describes Hiram as "a ruthless, handsome, charismatic businessman who is coming back to Riverdale after weathering a financial scandal." The character has been mentioned but not seen in Season 1.

TV Line reported Consuelos will have to drop the Riverdale role, however, if his Fox series, Pitch, is renewed for a second season. He is also slated to to appear in Season 4 of the NBC drama The Night Shift.

Riverdale is based on the Archie comics, which debuted in the 1940s, and stars KJ Apa as Archie, Lili Reinhart as Betty and Cole Sprouse as Jughead. The series airs Thursdays on The CW.
