Spike releases trailer for series based on Stephen King's 'The Mist'

April 12 (UPI) -- Spike TV has released a trailer for The Mist, its upcoming horror series based on Stephen King's novella by the same name.

Starring Morgan Spector, Alyssa Sutherland, Gus Birney, Danica Curcic, Okezie Morro, Luke Cosgrove, Darren Pettie, Russell Posner, Dan Butler and Frances Conroy, the program is to premiere on the cable network June 22.

"Fear. Human. Nature," warns a message accompanying Tuesday's 95-second clip on YouTube. "Spike's The Mist centers around a small-town family that is torn apart by a brutal crime. As they deal with the fallout, an eerie mist rolls in, suddenly cutting them off from the rest of the world and, in some cases, each other. Family, friends and adversaries become strange bedfellows, battling the mysterious mist and its threats, fighting to maintain morality and sanity as the rules of society break down."

The story was previously adapted as a 2007 film directed by Frank Darabont. It was notable, in part, because it featured Melissa McBride, Laurie Holden and Jeffrey DeMunn, who all went on to work with Darabont on Season 1 of The Walking Dead.
