Adrien Brody joins Season 4 cast of 'Peaky Blinders'

March 24 (UPI) -- Oscar-winning actor Adrien Brody has joined the Season 4 cast of the British, gangster series Peaky Blinders.

Filming began this week in Liverpool with Cillian Murphy reprising his lead role as Thomas Shelby in the drama, which is set in the 1920s.

Also returning for the fresh run of episodes are Tom Hardy, Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson, Joe Cole, Sophie Rundle, Finn Cole, Aimee-Ffion Edwards and Kate Phillips.

"It's fantastic to have Adrien join our team. He genuinely was the actor in my head when I wrote the part. I'm sure he will be a formidable presence in the world of the Peaky Blinders," the show's creator Steven Knight said in a statement.

"Adrien Brody is a world-class actor famous for producing mesmerizing performances. I cannot wait to see him in action alongside the rest of Peaky Blinders' superb cast, bringing Steven Knight's extraordinary writing to life on BBC Two," added Piers Wenger, controller of BBC Drama.

Brody, 43, is best known for his work in the films The Thin Red Line, The Pianist, King Kong, The Darjeeling Limited, Midnight in Paris and The Grand Budapest Hotel.
