March 23 (UPI) -- Dancing with the Stars host Tom Bergeron is attempting to mend the relationship between Season 24 contestant Nick Viall and William Shatner.

"Happy birthday to my pal @WilliamShatner! Any chance I can negotiate a truce between you & @viallnicholas28??" Bergeron wrote on Twitter Wednesday alongside a photo of himself smiling with the Star Trek alum inside a car in celebration of Shatner's 86th birthday.

Bergeron is attempting to play peacemaker after Shatner urged his followers on Twitter Monday to not vote for Viall who competed with his partner Peta Murgatroyd on the show's season premiere.

"My goal for #DWTS is to knock Bachelor Nick out ASAP. Who is with me?" the actor wrote as part of a series of tweets that slammed The Bachelor star.

"Whoever you favorite is - just not Nick - make the 10 phone calls for them," Shatner continued.

When asked by fans why he is against Viall, Shatner replied, "He lives up to the homonym of his last name," followed by, "Leopards don't change their spots. Don't be surprised if he shows up again on paradise. I won't be."

Viall responded to the tweets with a sad emoji face.

On Monday's premiere, Viall and Murgatroyd performed a cha-cha routine set to "Let Me Love You" by DJ Snake & Tiesto featuring Justin Bieber.
