Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Darren Criss and Edgar Ramirez have been cast in the FX series American Crime Story. The 30-year-old American actor and 39-year-old Venezuelan star will play serial killer Andrew Cunanan and late designer Gianni Versace in Season 3 of the anthology show, titled Versace: American Crime Story, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The season will explore the 1997 murder of Versace, who founded the Italian fashion house of the same name. Cunanan, who killed the designer and four other people, died by suicide eight days after Versace's murder.
American Crime Story is executive produced by Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story), who previously worked with Criss on Glee. The show aired a critically acclaimed first season, The People v. O.J. Simpson, in 2016, and will explore the events of Hurricane Katrina in Season 2.
Versace is based on the book Vulgar Favors by Maureen Orth, with Deadline reporting that Murphy will direct the season premiere. The 51-year-old producer denied in an interview with Variety in January that Lady Gaga will portray Donatella Versace.
"She's a friend. But she's very busy this year," he said of the singer, who starred on American Horror Story: Hotel.
"When you're going to do a show like Versace, it's a five-month commitment, it's a very big show, we're shooting it all over the world. So I just don't think with her schedule, I knew that it would never have worked. But I would love to work with her on something in the future," he added.
Criss is known for playing Blaine on Glee, while Ramirez starred in the miniseries Carlos. Murphy is also working on American Horror Story Season 7, which will tackle the 2016 presidential election.
