Feb. 15 (UPI) -- The Outlander official Facebook page offered an update on the period romance's shooting schedule and when Season 3 is expected to debut.

"Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe have wrapped filming in Scotland and are off to South Africa to continue their adventure. Prepare for an amazing season, clan. Outlander will return to STARZ this September," Wednesday's post reads.

Based on Diana Gabaldon's popular fantasy novels, the small-screen drama follows Claire [Balfe,] a married, former World War II military nurse who magically travels back to 18th century Scotland where she meets and falls in love with warrior Jamie [Heughan.]

Production on the season began last September and will wrap in June.

"While 'Droughtlander' will last just a little longer, we feel it is important to allow the production the time and number of episodes needed to tell the story of the Voyager book in its entirety. The scale of this book is immense, and we owe the fans the very best show. Returning in September will make that possible," Carmi Zlotnik, president of programming for Starz, said in a statement.
