READING, Pa., Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Jon Gosselin says he was shocked to hear about his reported estrangement from his children.

The 39-year-old DJ spoke to Entertainment Tonight after Cara and Mady Gosselin, his 15-year-old twin daughters with ex-wife Kate Gosselin, told People they aren't interested in seeing him.

"I'm very upset," Gosselin admitted. "I love my children very much. I've always been there for them and I always will be. It's shocking."

Cara and Mady, who appear with their mom and siblings on the magazine's Sept. 5 cover, had said they purposely avoid their dad. Gosselin had previously claimed that Kate keeps him from their eight children.

"He makes it seem like we're being kept from him, which is insane. He should maybe spend some time thinking about why we don't want to see him," Mady said. "He doesn't even know us."

Kate praised Mady in the interview for locating and staying on "the high road" when it comes to Gosselin. She and the DJ, who split in 2009 after 10 years of marriage, are also parents to 12-year-old sextuplets.

"It's not going to be an easy road -- anyone who grows up with a parent who is often absent is going to have issues to deal with," the 41-year-old Kate Plus 8 star said. "[Mady] doesn't want to join his game."

Kate also discussed 12-year-old son Collin Gosselin. The reality star confirmed the preteen has "special needs" and is enrolled in a program away from home following rumors of behavioral issues.
