PASADENA, Calif., July 30 (UPI) -- HBO said its upcoming sci-fi series Westworld, starring Evan Rachel Wood, will debut on Oct. 2.

The first teaser trailer for the 10-episode show was released last month. Starring Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Thandie Newton and Jeffrey Wright, the series is about androids that come alive in a wild-west setting.

Based on the 1973 film of the same name, the long-delayed drama was developed by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy with J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk as executive producers.

A synopsis described it as "a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin. Set at the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past, it explores a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged."
