NEW YORK, July 30 (UPI) -- Vice President Joe Biden is scheduled to guest star as himself on the second episode of the upcoming, 18th season of Law & Order: SVU, NBC confirmed.

Biden will be seen in a press conference scene where he commends the special victims unit led by Lt. Olivia Benson, played by Mariska Hargitay, for its work in addressing the national rape-kit backlog, specifically in Detroit. ‎‎

"The issue reflects the real-life efforts of Biden and series star Hargitay, who both recently spoke at the United State of Women Summit at the White House in June to address the national backlog of untested rape kits, and the pervasive culture of violence and sexual assault against women.‎ The vice president was also honored by Hargitay's Joyful Heart Foundation last May for his commitment to ending domestic violence and sexual assault," the network said in a press release.

Season 18 of Law & Order: SVU is to premiere Sep. 21 on NBC. Biden's appearance is to air Sept. 28.
