Rihanna to play Marion Crane in final season of 'Bates Motel'

SAN DIEGO, July 23 (UPI) -- Music superstar Rihanna will play the iconic role of Marion Crane in the upcoming, fifth and final season of the Psycho prequel series Bates Motel.

"Rihanna is Marion Crane!!! #BatesMotel," A&E tweeted Friday.

"She said that she was a fan of #BatesMotel! We asked and she said yes!" reads another message from the network.

The last season of Bates Motel -- starring Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore as Norma and Norman Bates -- is expected to recreate the events of Alfred Hitchcock's iconic, 1960 psychological horror movie Psycho. In the movie version, Janet Leigh played Marion, a woman on the run after stealing $40,000 from her boss. Marion then makes the unfortunate decision to stay at the Bates Motel where she is spied on and eventually stabbed to death in the shower.
