LOS ANGELES, July 1 (UPI) -- Vanessa Lachey has joined the cast of TV Land's First Wives Club pilot.

News outlets reported the 35-year-old actress will star with Alyson Hannigan and Megan Hilty in the new pilot, a series remake of the 1996 movie.

The First Wives Club centers on three friends who reconnect after the death of their close friend from college. The trio band together to face life's challenges after discovering they're all at a crossroads.

Lachey will play Sasha, a "driven and successful" chef living in San Francisco. The character appears to have it all -- a great job and a girlfriend she plans to marry -- but reconsiders her future after reconnecting with her old friends.

Hannigan and Hilty, meanwhile, will portray Maggie and Kim. The former is a "bright but frustrated" English professor who leaves her husband, while Kim is a "needy and vulnerable" actress and divorcée with an 8-year-old son.

The First Wives Club is based on the Olivia Goldsmith novel of the same name. The film adaptation starred Diane Keaton, Goldie Hawn and Bette Midler and earned over $181 million at the box office.
