'Malcolm in the Middle' reunion possible, says Bryan Cranston

MAUI, Hawaii, June 23 (UPI) -- Malcolm in the Middle star Bryan Cranston says a reunion is possible.

The 60-year-old actor, who played Hal on the Fox series, was optimistic about a revival or one-off while speaking to E! News at the 2016 Maui Film Festival.

"I sure hope so," Cranston said. "I really do, for no other reason than that I miss those people like crazy and I stay in touch with them. The boys are doing great and Jane (Kaczmarek) is doing wonderfully and I'd love to."

"There's a possibility we want to start talking about the possibility of putting together a story that makes sense about that family 10 years or 12 years later," he revealed. "All I want to do is tell the story and have a good experience."

Malcolm in the Middle had a seven-season run from 2000 to 2006. The series followed Malcolm (Frankie Muniz), a middle schooler with a genius IQ, along with his parents (Cranston and Kaczmarek) and four brothers (Christopher Masterson, Justin Berfield, Erik Per Sullivan and James/Lukas Rodriguez).

"It's been 10 years since [Malcolm] went off the air," Cranston told ET Canada in September. "It'd be fun to pick up that guy's clothes again and be fun and sweet and adorable and hapless and clueless and afraid of everything."

Muniz had expressed interest in a sequel series earlier that month. The actor, now 30 years old, gauged interest by tweeting, "How fun would 'Malcolm in the Mid-life Crisis' be? I wonder what Malcolm and his family would be up to now!"

Cranston is also known for playing Walter White on Breaking Bad, which ended in 2013 after five seasons. The actor is slated for The Infiltrator with John Leguizamo and Power Rangers with Elizabeth Banks.
