Amazon renews 'Transparent' for a fourth season

SEATTLE, May 31 (UPI) -- Amazon says it has greenlit a fourth season of its Emmy Award-winning comedy Transparent.

Fresh episodes of the show about a transgender woman and her family's adjustment to her new identity will be available via the subscription streaming service in 2017.

Back for the new season will be Jeffrey Tambor as Maura Pfefferman, Judith Light as Shelly Pfefferman, Gaby Hoffmann as Ali Pfefferman, Amy Landecker as Sarah Pfefferman and Jay Duplass as Josh Pfefferman.

Series creator Jill Soloway will continue in her role as showrunner and Andrea Sperling will return as executive producer.

"As the quality of television rises to new heights, Transparent continues to stand out for its depth of character, compassionate storytelling and its infinite creative risk-taking," Joe Lewis, head of half-hour television at Amazon Studios, said in a statement Tuesday. "We're grateful that customers have responded so enthusiastically to the Pfefferman family and we're excited to bring them another chapter of their story."

"Amazon's explosive freedom and revolutionary thinking has given birth to this show," added Soloway. "It's so much more than TV to us, it's our version of the most ambitious streaming art we can conjure. We're having the time of our lives sharing Season 2 for the awards season hoopla, and editing and finishing up Season 3 for a fall release. This news of an order for Season 4 is so, so sweet. The Pfeffermans have many more stories to tell and we can't wait to keep making them."
