The White Princess is based on the Philippa Gregory novel of the same name. Starz previously aired a BBC One adaptation of the author's book The White Queen, which follows Elizabeth of York's mother, Elizabeth Woodville.

The new, eight-episode miniseries will begin filming later this year. The series dramatizes Elizabeth of York's marriage to Henry Tudor, which brought the Wars of the Roses to a close. Fairley's character is the "strong-willed" mother of Henry VII.

"The arranged union and Lizzie's anger at being used as a pawn bring her into direct conflict with [Margaret]," the press release reads. "Matching wits and wills, these two brilliant and ambitious women battle for Henry's favor."

Fairley is known for playing Catelyn Stark on HBO series Game of Thrones. She also portrayed Ava Hessington on the USA network drama Suits and Margot Al-Harazi on the 24 limited series 24: Live Another Day.
