Jon Snow's fate finally revealed on 'Game of Thrones' [Spoiler alert!]

LOS ANGELES, May 2 (UPI) -- The fate of Lord Commander Jon Snow, a character presumed dead in the Season 5 finale of Game of Thrones, was revealed in the second episode of Season 6, which aired Sunday night.

Snow was stabbed multiple times by members of his Night's Watch who objected to his decision to join forces with their sworn enemy, the wildlings. His last, remaining, loyal followers were seen in the Season 6 premiere of HBO's medieval fantasy series, holed up in a room, guarding Snow's body.

In Sunday's episode, priestess Melisandre, played by Carice van Houten, cleaned Snow's wounds and worked her mysterious magic over him. When she doesn't appear to revive Snow, she and the men leave him alone with his wolf companion Ghost and go to prepare his funeral.

Snow is seen in the episode's final moments waking up and gasping for breath.

Kit Harington, the actor who plays Snow, used an interview with Entertainment Weekly to apologize to fans for lying to them in an effort to keep whether he lives or dies a surprise until the right time.

"Sorry!" the actor said. "I'd like to say sorry for lying to everyone. I'm glad that people were upset that he died. I think my biggest fear was that people were not going to care. Or it would just be, 'Fine, Jon Snow's dead.' But it seems like people had a, similar to the Red Wedding episode, kind of grief about it. Which means something I'm doing -- or the show is doing -- is right."
