NEW YORK, March 1 (UPI) -- Steve Martin performed a special Broadway-inspired song about not wanting to be on The Tonight Show during the latest episode of the late night program.
In theatrical fashion, Martin, 70, sang the reasons why he'd rather not appear on Tonight, eventually saying he agreed to do the show "because I thought [Feb. 29] didn't exist."
After "singing and stalling," the author of the upcoming Broadway musical, Bright Star, exited his dressing room and made his way to the stage. After a few choreographed slaps between himself and set employees, Martin finished off the number alongside host Fallon.
"Yes, now we're doing the show!" the two sang in unison.
Martin's Bright Star is now in previews at the Cort Theater in New York and opens to the public March 24.
