The preview sees Jonathan and Richard face off after the latter begins to suspect something is amiss. Elizabeth Debicki also stars as Richard's girlfriend Jed, with Olivia Coleman as Jonathan's handler Burr and Tom Hollander as Richard's associate Corcoran.

The Night Manager is based on the John Le Carre spy novel of the same name, which was published in 1993.

The BBC and AMC are adapting the book as a six-part miniseries scheduled to air Feb. 21 on the BBC and Apr. 19 on AMC.

"I've been preparing since I was a young boy for being bad and I've done a lot of background work," Laurie joked of playing a villain to the Telegraph. "Villainy serves a purpose in all good storytelling."

"I just felt like I knew who this guy was," he added of of Richard, who is described as the "worst man in the world." "I could see and hear him; I could sort of sense his peculiar snobberies but also his weird sentimentality, which would show itself in all kinds of ways."
