The special, which takes place after the events of the original 2013 film, will reunite the voice cast of Kristen Bell as Anna, Idina Menzel as Elsa, Jonathan Groff as Kristoff and Josh Gad as Olaf.

The currently untitled project will be directed by two-time Emmy Award-winning directors Kevin Deters and Stevie Wermers-Skelton (Prep & Landing), and will be produced by Oscar Award-winner Roy Conli (Big Hero 6).

News of the animated special comes off the heels of Disney Theatrical Productions announcing Tuesday Alex Timbers as director of the stage musical based on Frozen. The show will feature music and lyrics by the creators of the film score -- Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez -- and a book by Jennifer Lee, the movie's screenwriter and co-director.

Released in 2013, Frozen grossed nearly $1.28 billion at the worldwide box office making it the most successful animated film of all time.
