Jerry Seinfeld, Mark Hamill and Joel McHale up for 'Mystery Science Theater 3000' revival

MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Friends of Mystery Science Theater 3000 creator Joel Hodgson; Jerry Seinfeld, Mark Hamill and Joel McHale, have been invited to appear on the upcoming revival of the sci-fi comedy classic.

Hodgson revealed the news Thursday, hours before the show's final day on crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. As of now, the Mystery Science Theater 3000 revival has earned just over $4.8 million, close to the campaign's final stretch goal of $5.5 million which would finance the production of a full 12 episode season.

The three stars showed their support for Hodgson on Twitter urging their followers to back the project on Kickstarter if they wanted to see the star-studded cast come together. "It's NOT TOO LATE for U-2 help #BringBackMST3K How great would it be 2 see @JoelGHodgson & crew in ALL NEW episodes?" wrote Hamill on Thursday.

"My pal @JoelGHodgson has 36 hours left to #BringBackMST3K. Help him out now at BringBackMST3K.com and I'll show up next season," tweeted Seinfeld.

"Can't wait Joel! Thank you. In the meantime I think we should all pitch in & get Bill a @twitter account." joked McHale.

Recently, Patton Oswalt and Felicia Day joined the cast as new characters related to series regulars, TV's Son of TV's Frank and Kinga Forrester.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 originally aired for 11 seasons before it went off the air in 1999. The series famously featured two mad scientists, Dr. Clayton Forrester and Dr. Laurence Erhardt who along with their test subject Joel Robins watched and commented on various B-movies in order to take over the world.
