NEW YORK, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- With Star Wars: The Force Awakens just weeks away, Saturday Night Live resurrected a popular sketch featuring failed celebrity auditions for the sci-fi epic.

The SNL cast joined stars from the new film including Daisy Ridley and John Boyega along with Emma Stone, Jon Hamm and singer Michael Buble as they auditioned for various Star Wars characters including Han Solo and Chewbacca.

Director J.J Abrams kicked things off introducing the never before seen screen tests starting with SNL's Cecily Strong impersonating Sofia Vergara as she hilariously explains how much she loves her favorite cartoon characters, The Minions.

Stone during her audition for Ridley's character Rey, brought up how she could play a very convincing half-Asian women referencing the real-life controversy surrounding her casting in the romantic comedy Aloha.

Most memorably however was Mad Men star Jon Hamm auditioning for the role of "Hamm Solo" as he awkwardly delivered a line of dialogue he had devised himself. Other impersonations included SNL's Jay Pharoah as Shaquille O' Neal trying out for Chewbacca and Bobby Moynihan asking for a Diet Coke as Star Wars series creator George Lucas.
