Jason Momoa to star in Netflix series 'Frontier'

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Game of Thrones alum Jason Momoa is to star in the new action-adventure drama Frontier, Netflix announced.

The six-episode series about the North American fur trade in the late 18th century is from co-creators Rob Blackie and Peter Blackie, and director Brad Peyton. It will premiere exclusively on the streaming service outside of Canada in 2016.

Co-starring Alun Armstrong, Landon Liboiron, Zoe Boyle and Allan Hawco, Frontier will first debut on Discovery Canada and will become available via Netflix Canada beginning in 2018.

"We jumped at the opportunity to bring this action-packed series to our global viewers," Erik Barmack, vice president of local originals at Netflix, said in a statement Monday. "The creative team behind the series has a very exciting vision for Jason and the show, and we're thrilled to be working with Discovery Canada on getting a vast, worldwide audience to enjoy it."

"Frontier presents an outstanding opportunity for our company and we are thrilled to be in business with Netflix and Discovery on this exciting project," added Alex Patrick, president of Take the Shot Productions.
