LOS ANGELES, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Alexa PenaVega earned the first perfect score of the season on Monday night's episode of Dancing with the Stars.

After previously getting prepped for elimination by dance partner Mark Ballas, PenaVega met her new stand-in partner for Switch-Up Week, Derek Hough, who was determined to get the actress back into the game.

The new dancing duo teamed up for an intense tango routine that earned perfect scores (40 out of 40) and a standing ovation from judge Carrie Ann Inaba. Judge Julianne Hough said the routine showcased PenaVega as a "natural, authentic, raw person," and judge Bruno Tonioli remarked how the performance was "a complete metamorphosis."

PenaVega's husband, Carlos PenaVega also dominated the dance floor coming in second place with a score of 39 (out of 40) for his high-energy quickstep with his pro-partner of the night, Lindsay Arnold. Fan-favorite Bindi Irwin rounded out the top three.

None of the participants went home on Monday. The contestants are now gearing up for an upcoming elimination week that will be determined based on their scores so far.
