LOS ANGELES, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Singer Bruno Mars has signed on to produce a new family comedy for NBC.

The music star will be teaming up with Empire executive producer Brian Grazer on the project, Entertainment Weekly reported. The network has also brought on Brooklyn Nine-Nine writer Prentice Penny to pen the pilot.

The new series will feature an energetic musical family living in the Bronx who decide to take in a 10-year-old relative. Mars' music will be used on the show.

Recently ABC Family, set to be renamed Freeform in January, also made a production deal with a music star, tapping Nicki Minaj to executive produce a show based on her life.

Mars, the "Uptown Funk" singer, has also been invited back to perform during the halftime show at Super Bowl 50.
