NEW YORK, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Season 41 of Saturday Night Live began with a cold open featuring Taran Killam and Cecily Strong as Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and his wife Melania.

"Donald Trump and his wife, Melania, clear up some of the misconceptions about him, like that he hates women and immigrants," said a message posted along with the nearly 5-minute video clip on YouTube.

"Good evening. As the man who is almost certainly your next president, I wanted to give you the chance to get to know the real Donald," Killam as Trump told the audience.

"Welcome to our humble, gold house," Strong as Melania chimed in.

"Not bad, right? Talk about foreign-policy experience. We've got the same interior decorator as Saddam Hussein," the faux Trump touted. "Now I asked Melania to be here tonight to clear up some of the lies that those losers and morans are saying about me. Like that I hate women. How can I hate women when I have the world's greatest woman right here?"

When Melania attempted to explain away her spouse's feud with Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly as a misunderstanding, Trump emphasized: "I love Megyn Kelly. I love her. I think she's great. She's talented and beautiful, but she's a heifer who is always on her period and I hate her and I hope she dies."

Melania then admonished him for intentionally saying outrageous things to raise his polling numbers, but he denied the allegation, insisting he merely speaks "from my heart."

"Really? OK, because I heard your numbers went down a little this week," Melania said with a smile and a wink.

"Mexicans are stealing our children," Trump declared.

"You see?" Melania said. "He didn't even have to think about it. He's a genius."

"Thank you, darling," Trump said.
