Maisie Williams accepts Guinness record for 'Game of Thrones'

The series co-stars Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage and Ian Hempstead Wright.

LONDON, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Maisie Williams accepted a Guinness World Records award on behalf of HBO series Game of Thrones this week.

The 18-year-old English actress, who plays Arya Stark on the show, was on hand to receive a certificate for Largest TV Drama Simulcast on Monday. Season 5, episode 2, "The House of Black and White," was broadcast in a record 173 countries simultaneously Apr. 19.

"I'm so pleased for Game of Thrones to be a part of Guinness World Records," Williams said in a press release. "I'm going to tell my stepbrother as he gets the book every year for Christmas. I can't wait to see the look on his face!"

The record will appear in the 2016 edition of the Guinness World Records, which hits bookshelves Sept. 10. Williams has portrayed Arya since the show's premiere in 2011, and will return on season 6 come spring 2016. She is also slated to appear on season 9 of BBC series Doctor Who.

Game of Thrones is based on the A Song of Ice and Fire book series by George R.R. Martin. Season 6 will be based on books 4, 5 and 6, A Feast for Crows, A Dance with Dragons and The Winds of Winter, in addition to original material.
