LOS ANGELES, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- CBS has given fans their first look at Jenna Dewan Tatum as Lucy Lane in the network's upcoming superhero drama Supergirl.

The 34-year-old actress will appear as the DC Comics character several episodes into the show's debut season this fall. The network has previously described Lucy as the "funny" and "brash" younger sister of Lois Lane, who is not slated to appear on the program.

Supergril stars Melissa Benoist as the title character, aka Kara Zor-El and Kara Danvers as she embraces her powers and begins to fight crime. The series will also touch upon Kara's lineage as Superman's cousin.

Entertainment Weekly has the first on-set photo of Tatum in character along with new details about how Lane's arrival will impact Kara and co-worker Jimmy Olsen played by Mehcad Brooks, a character Lane has history with.

"We hope to explore the history that Lucy has with James Olsen - or as Lucy knows him, Jimmy Olsen," executive producer Ali Adler tells EW. "I think we're going to bring in her father. She not only plays a romantic foil with whatever Kara and James are brewing, but people will also be surprised that she's really a woman's woman. She and Kara develop their own friendship, too. We're not just bringing her into purposefully create tension. She serves a larger story drive."
