Andy Grammer to compete on 'Dancing with the Stars'

The ABC reality competition will return Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. ET.

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Andy Grammer is the latest celebrity to join Dancing with the Stars season 21.

ABC revealed the 31-year-old singer-songwriter will compete on the reality series Monday on Twitter, writing, "Honey, he's good! Please join us in welcoming @AndyGrammer to #dwts."

"What's up guys? Andy Grammer here. Rumors are true -- I'm doing Dancing with the Stars. Check me out on September 14," the star added in a video announcement.

Grammer will contend against Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter, conservationist Bindi Irwin and legendary funk singer Chaka Khan, among others. The celebrities will be partnered with such pros as Derek Hough, Karina Smirnoff and Val Chmerkovskiy.

The news comes amid word season 18 contestant and 2014 Paralympic bronze medalist Amy Purdy married Daniel Gale over the weekend. The longtime couple told People they wed at an "outdoorsy," "simple" and "bohemian" ceremony in Boise, Idaho on Saturday.

Grammer is the son of singer Robert "Red" Grammer, and released his first, self-titled studio album in June 2011. He followed up with Magazines or Novels in August 2014, which peaked at No. 19 on the Billboard 200, and includes the hit single "Honey, I'm Good."
