'The Soul Man' renewed for a fifth and final season

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- The Soul Man has been renewed for a fith and final season, TV Land announced.

The sitcom stars Cedric the Entertainer as fictional R&B superstar-turned-minister, Reverend Boyce "The Voice" Ballentine, Niecy Nash as his hairdresser wife Lolli and Wesley Jonathan as his brother Stamps.

"It has been amazing working with Cedric, Niecy, Wesley and the rest of the cast and crew on what has truly been a memorable and fun experience," Keith Cox, executive vice president of development and original programming for TV Land, said in a statement. "We appreciate the fans and all the love the show has received over the years, and we plan to give the viewers something very special this season."

Bill Martin and Mike Schiff will serve as showrunners for the final, 12-episode run.
