LOS ANGELES, May 24 (UPI) -- FX says it has ordered a series based on Kurt Sutter's The Bastard Executioner television pilot.

"Kurt Sutter's new epic series has officially moved from pilot to first season production. Prepare for the arrival of The Bastard Executioner," the cable network said in Facebook and Twitter posts Friday.

Lee Jones, Katey Sagal and Stephen Moyer will star in the 14th century-set, British drama, while Sutter, Brian F. O'Byrne, Flora Spencer-Longhurst, Sam Spruell, Darren Evans, Danny Sapani, Timothy V. Murphy, Sarah White, Sarah Sweeny and Matthew Rhys will also play roles.

The Bastard Executioner tells the story of a warrior knight, who wishes to distance himself from the violence of battle, but is forced to become an executioner. The pilot was shot in Wales.

Sutter also created FX's bloodsoaked, biker drama Sons of Anarchy, which wrapped its seven-season run last year.
