'General Hospital' stars Maura West, Anthony Geary win Daytime Emmy Awards; Betty White gets career achievement honor

BURBANK, Calif., April 27 (UPI) -- The soap operas Days of Our Lives and The Young and the Restless tied for the Outstanding Drama Daytime Emmy Award in Burbank Sunday night.

The Bold and the Beautiful scored the prizes for Outstanding Writing and Directing teams, while General Hospital castmates Anthony Geary, Maura West and Chad Duell earned the accolades for Outstanding Actor, Actress and Supporting Actor.

The Outstanding Supporting Actress honor went to Y&R co-star Amelia Heinle.

Craig Ferguson was declared Outstanding Game Show Host for Celebrity Name Game, while Jeopardy! was named Outstanding Game Show.

The Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Talk Show Informative went to Steve Harvey and the trophy for Outstanding Talk Show Entertainment was presented to The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

The Chew stars Mario Batali, Carla Hall, Clinton Kelly, Daphne Oz and Michael Symon shared the award for Outstanding Talk Show Host[s] Informative and Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan won the Emmy for Outstanding Talk Show Host[s] Entertainment for Live with Kelly and Michael.

Barefoot Contessa: Back to Basics was named Outstanding Culinary Program and CBS Sunday Morning was declared Outstanding Morning Program.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the winners of the 42nd annual Daytime Emmy Awards in a sold-out gala for more than 1,200 attendees held at Stage 16 of the Warner Bros. Studios Lot. The awards presentation was hosted by Tyra Banks.

"What an eclectic mix of the magnificent bounty that is Daytime Television," Bob Mauro, president of NATAS, said in a statement. "So many stars lighting up the red carpet at the iconic Warner Bros. Studio Lot in addition to the indefatigable, unparalleled Betty White as our Lifetime Achievement Award honoree. This is a terrific showcase of the power of Daytime Television that will be remembered for years to come!"
