"I don't think so, no," she said of season two. "I signed for a year and the year is up. But there are some great things coming ahead on Gotham, believe you me. There's a lot of good stuff coming."

Pinkett Smith later confirmed her departure in an interview with Extra, telling host A.J. Calloway, "We're done. I did my year and I had a good time. The show is going to have an awesome finale."

"I've always been a comic book fan so it was definitely a dream to be able to participate in an origin story of Batman with an original character," she related. "Who would have thought in a million years that I would have the opportunity to do that?"

Gotham premiered in September 2014, and airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET. The series tells the origin stories of such DC Comics characters as Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz), aka Batman, Detective James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor), aka Penguin.
