LOS ANGELES, March 2 (UPI) -- Fashion Police host Kathy Griffin is reportedly staying out of her show's dreadlocks controversy because she believes the situation "has gone way too far."

Griffith, who replaced the late Joan Rivers as host of the celebrity fashion show in January, has remained unusually uninvolved in the contention that followed Giuliana Rancic's comment that Zendaya's dreadlocks smelled like "patchouli oil and weed" at the Oscars.

Sources told Radar Online the comedian is keeping her thoughts to herself because she knows that "these sort of things are bound to happen when you are trying to make people laugh."

"Kathy is just playing Canada on this one," said the insider. "She is staying neutral because she loves being a host on Fashion Police and she has gotten great response lately to her performance."

Rancic's comments are widely believed to be the reason behind co-panelist Kelly Osbourne's sudden departure from the show, even after she apologized for the remarks.

On Monday, it was reported that reality stars Khloe Kardashian and NeNe Leakes are being considered as possible replacements for Osbourne.
