Maya Rudolph, Jaden Smith to appear on new HBO pilot

The actress and actor will guest star on the pilot, with the chance for recurring roles.

NEW YORK, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Maya Rudolph and Jaden Smith will appear on Brothers in Atlanta.

The 42-year-old actress and 16-year-old actor will guest star on the new HBO comedy pilot, with the chance for recurring roles. Rudolph will portray former R&B diva Shirle, while Smith will play "New Atlanta" teenager Curtis.

Brothers in Atlanta was written by Diallo Riddle and Bashir Salahuddin, who will star as best friends and struggling entertainers Langston and Moose. Curtis is Langston's rowdy neighbor, while Shirle is Moose's demanding boss.

Riddle and Salahuddin will also executive produce with Lorne Michaels. The pair are known for their work on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, while Rudolph previously collaborated with Michaels on Saturday Night Live.

Rudolph recently appeared in Paul Thomas Anderson film Inherent Vice, and is scheduled for Sisters with Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. Smith last starred with father Will Smith in After Earth, and will reprise Dre Parker in The Karate Kid 2.
