Bear Grylls to star on new ITV series

The adventurer most recently appeared on "Running Wild with Bear Grylls" in 2014.

LONDON, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Bear Grylls will star on new series Mission Survive.

The ITV reality competition will see the 40-year-old adventurer take eight celebrities deep into the rainforests of Central America. Grylls will guide participants on a 12-day excursion, assisted by survivalists Megan Hine and Scott Heffield.

One contestant will be eliminated per episode, until three remain to contend for the title of Mission Survivor. Grylls will produce through Bear Grylls Ventures, alongside Electus and Betty studios.

Grylls came to fame on Discovery series Man v. Wild, and subsequently starred on Worst Case Scenario and Get Out Alive. He is also a published author, and released new book Extreme Food in October 2014.

Grylls most recently appeared on NBC series Running Wild with Bear Grylls. The show saw the television personality take celebrities, including Channing Tatum and Zac Efron, on 48-hour adventures in the wilderness.
