NEW YORK, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Lauren Graham wasn't prepared for Gilmore Girls to end.

The 47-year-old actress recalled the moment she learned The WB series was canceled Tuesday on Late Night with Seth Myers. Graham recently filmed the final episodes of NBC drama Parenthood, and said the experience was easier because of the planned transition.

"It's really difficult but also really nice to be able to say goodbye," she related. "I've mainly been on shows where they just yank it and you find out later ... We shot the last episode [of Gilmore Girls] and we had no idea. There was some back and forth of what was gonna happen."

Graham and Alexis Bledel portrayed mother and daughter duo Lorelai and Rory on seven seasons of Gilmore Girls. The actress subsequently starred as Sarah Braverman on Parenthood, and in an interview with Today said the sixth and final season will come to a satisfying end.

"I think it was a nice journey," she revealed Wednesday. "For me, it started with my character, [who] needed to come home; she needed help. She was a waitress. She's really grown into a career and a relationship. So yeah, it was a nice resolution."

Graham will appear as Oscar Madison's (Matthew Perry) ex-wife Gaby on a remake of CBS sitcom The Odd Couple, and is also scheduled for family film Max. Parenthood airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET, and will come to a close January 29.
