LOS ANGELES, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Christina Ricci will return as Lizzie Borden on Lifetime.

The 34-year-old actress will reprise the role of the ax murder suspect in six-hour miniseries Lizzie Borden: The Fall River Chronicles in 2015. Ricci first portrayed the character in the network's television movie Lizzie Borden Took an Ax in January.

Borden was tried and acquitted for the ax murders of her father and stepmother in 1892. The limited series will present a dramatized version of events, and follow the character after her controversial acquittal. The program posits Borden continued to kill after being acquitted, and sees Pinkerton detective Charlie Siringo (Cole Hauser) attempt to prove her involvement in the crimes.

Steven Kay will direct the first two episodes, with Judith Verno as producer and Greg Small, Rich Blaney, Barbara Nance, Jason Grote and David Simkins as writers. Clea DuVall will return as Lizzie's sister Emma, with Andrew Howard as Lizzie's half-brother William and John Heard as businessman William Almy.

Ricci is scheduled to star alongside Susan Sarandon, Sharon Stone and Laura Dern in Mother's Day in May 2015.
