LOS ANGELES, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- A pilot for a follow-up show to the fantasy series Bewitched is being developed by Sony pictures for NBC.

Deadline reports the new show, which was penned by the writers of The Vow, Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein, garnered interest from NBC and ABC as both networks bid for the rights to air the series. ABC famously aired the original Bewitched starring Elizabeth Montgomery and Dick York (who was later replaces by Dick Sargent) from 1964 to 1972.

The new take on the show will follow Samantha's granddaughter and Tabitha's daughter, a witch in her 20s who has been using her powers to "conjure herself the perfect life," but winds up realizing that she cant use magic to find love.

Montgomery played Samantha, a witch that moves to suburbia after marrying a mortal, in Sol Saks's show for eight years. A spin-off series featuring Samantha's daughter Tabitha (Lisa Hartman) was created in 1977, but was cancelled after only one season.

The spin-off will be produced by Red Wagon Entertainment, which produced the motion picture Bewitched starring Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrel in 2005, and by Television 360 with Daniel Rappaport as executive producer.
